What is MasterCard SecureCode?
MasterCard SecureCode is a new service from MasterCard and your card issuer that provides added security when you shop online by providing additional protection against unauthorized use of your enrolled card.
How does MasterCard SecureCode work?
Once you've registered and created your own private SecureCode, every time you make an online purchase at a participating merchant, a box will automatically pop-up asking for your SecureCode, similar to the way your financial institution asks for your PIN at the ATM. When you correctly enter your SecureCode, your card issuer confirms that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is completed.
Will MasterCard's Zero Liability policy cover me if someone uses my SecureCode to make a purchase?
If your MasterCard card is issued in the United States, it has zero liability as one of its features. But even if you already have this protection, MasterCard SecureCode can help to save you from the hassle of disputing a charge that isn't yours, saving you time and aggravation. MasterCard SecureCode helps to prevent unauthorized online use of your account at participating merchants and provides added protection and peace of mind above and beyond zero liability.
